Composer’s Comments for Du Bist wie eine Blume: “I first learned of the tender poem of love, Du bist wie eine Blume by the nineteenth century poet Heinrich Heine through the beautiful setting for solo voice by Robert Schumann. I was moved to set the poem as through-composed choral work. In this original composition for mixed choir, I have endeavored to capture the mood and meaning of each phrase of Heine’s poem through fully Romantic colors in melody and its surrounding harmony for both the choral voices and the piano accompaniment. This is the composer’s twentieth concert choral composition.”
